Digital Light Sculpture, Media Object and Platform for Interactive Experience.
The Digital Light Sculpture (DLS), commissioned for Regent High School in Camden is more than a just a sculpture of light it is also an interactive digital platform.
Located in the atrium of the new Camden school building designed by Walter & Cohen Architects, the DLS consists of 30 vertically suspended 9m light tubes. Each computer controlled light tube will illuminate saturated colour or play specially designed moving image sequences.
Students will be given opportunities to explore, design and create digital content for playback on the DLS as well. It’s unique shape, position in the school atrium and use of layered light tubes will promote new ways of interpreting images which during playback become a volume of space rather than a traditional flat screen and the passive viewing it promotes.
